A dying whale

This is a picture of a Bryde’s whale that beached itself in Cairns in 2000. A local TV station filmed it as it writhed in agony. Despite the efforts of local volunteers, it died shortly after.

An autopsy found that the whale’s stomach was tightly packed with six square metres of plastic – too much of this was plastic bags.
